Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival

You will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Addis.

Day 2

Addis - Langano

After having your breakfast you will drive to southwards to Langano. En route visit Lake Ziway the largest of the upper Rift Valley lakes with an area of 400 sq. km. Its shores are lined with reeds and water lilies, sheltering a variety of water birds. Proceed towards the Lake Langano. The lake is a place to enjoy water activities. Though its mineral content gives it a brown color, the water is actually clean and pleasant for swimming. Overnight in Langano.

Day 3

Langano - Chencha - Arba Minch

Morning, drive to the town of Arba Minch sightseeing en route. Overnight in Arba Minch.

Day 4

Arba Minch Crocodile Market

After having your breakfast you will drive to the mountain village of Chencha, home of the Dorze people. Renowned for their cotton weaving, called Shammas. And their distinctive house- towering beehive shaped structures made from woven thatch. Afternoon, you will take a boat cruise on the Lake Chamo. At the spot called "Azo Gebeya" or Crocodile Market, huge concentration of crocodile's herds of hippo as well as many species of birds can be observed. Overnight in Arba Minch.

Day 5

Arba Minch - Konso - Jinka

Leaving Arba Minch, drive southwards to Jinka. En route visit one of the Konso villages. The Konso people live in a land of low terraced hills. They are reputed to be one of hard working groups in the country. Their elaborately terraced hillside grows some of the county's best coffee. They have an articulate tradition and erect peculiar totems on the grave of their deceased. You will experience interesting cultural encounters meeting with different tribes along the way. These tribes include the Ari, Benna and Tsemay. Overnight in Jinka.

Day 6

Jinka - Mago - Jinka

Take a day excursion to Mago National Park to visit the Mursi village. The Mursi are one of the most original ethnic groups. They live in very low huts made of straw leaves. The women like to wear terra cotta on their enormously stretched lower lips and ear lobes. The men are famous for their hairstyle. Drive back to Jinka. Overngiht in Jinka.

Day 7

Jinka - Turmi

Leaving Jinka, you will drive via Key Afer to Turmi where the Hamer people, one of the beautiful and dignified people in the Omo basin, live. The women wear elegant leather skirts festooned with tiny pearls. Elaborate hairstyles are another form of personal adornment with the Hamer. Overnight in Turmi.

Day 8

Turmi - Omorate - Turmi

This day you will take an excursion to Omorate where you will have cultural experience with the Geleb/ Dassenech people inhabitants of lower Omo River Valley. Visit and drive back to Turmi. Overnight in Turmi.

Day 9

Turmi - Murulle - Turmi

This day you will drive towards the Murelle area to see the Karo - Koricho ethnic group, experts in the body painting, using clays and locally available vegetable pigments to trace fantastic patterns on each other's faces, chests, arms, and legs. Karo men are also famous for their unique hairstyle. In the afternoon you will visit one of the Hamer's village. Overnight in Turmi.

Day 10

Turmi - Yabello

Depart Turmi and proceed to Yabello visiting en route the Arobre tribes and Borena pastoralists who own innumerable cattle. Overnight in Yabello.

Day 11

Yabello - Yirgalem

Leaving Yabello, drive to Yirgalem passing through a number of coffee and various fruit cultivating towns with splendid greenery everywhere. Proceed towards the Aregash Lodge. This loge is a natural retreat of astounding beauty and tranquillity. The Bamboo thatched Tukuls contemplate the traditional Sidama villages nearby. The nearby forest is home for diverse mammals and birds. The coffee plantation and the nightly visit of hyenas are further attractions to be found in the surrounding area. Overnight in Yirgalem.

Day 12

Yirgalem - Addis

After breakfast, drive to the town of Awassa. En route visit the fish market around Lake Awassa. Around the lake you could encounter birds like: hamerkop, marabou stork, sacred ibis, yellow billed stork and Egyptian geese and continue to the nearby Lakes Abiyatta and Shala. Lake Abiyata is shallow, with myriads of water birds, predominantly flamingos, while Lake Shala sits at the bottom of a 250m (820tf) deep creator, where flamingos breed. The two lakes are a haven for a large number of resident and migratory bird species making it perfect place for bird watching
Later you will be transferred to the airport for your departure.
